I am moving to this new apartment where I will not have a home phone line. However, I need internet. Can I get DSL internet without getting a phone service? Thank you.
you can have verizon install dsl in your new apartment. the only thing is they will probly include a phone service with your connection. you’ll have to find out from them.
If not, what’s the difference?
I can use semaphore flags to communicate between naval ships without use of electronics, but it is still telecommunications, or communication-over-distance.
Some (American) Indians used smoke signals to communicate over distance. That’s another example of telecommunications without electronics.
Flashing lights, or mirrors reflecting the sun can also be used to communicate over distance without use of electronics.

I like to know the name or names of the state owned Telecommunication Company or Companies of UK, which provide landline phone, mobile phone & wireless internet services.
There is no state owned Telephone companies in the UK. Sewrobb is correct, British Telecom was the only state owned telephone Company but was sold off to the private sector many years ago. BT is still the largest landline supplier in the UK but there are hundreds of landline and mobile phone suppliers in the UK. You can find a list of home phone and mobile phone service suppliers here http://www.uswitch.com/directory/home-phone/index.html.
There are only a few purely wireless internet suppliers in the UK, but most most mobile phone suppliers supply mobile phone wireless internet if you have a phone with that facility.

Why did Canada put laws against other countries owning Canadas telecommunications companies? I need a benefit to Canada by laws like this being created, a disadvantage to Canada, and an international benefit (benefit to the global community.
In a large, mostly empty country like Canada, telecoms are a vital service, so it seems in the national interest to keep them in Canadian hands. The idea is that the big Canadian players offer nationwide service, even though it’s very expensive for them to do so, while foreign companies might be tempted to only offer service in lucrative urban markets like Toronto or Montréal while ignoring the less lucrative northern and rural areas.
The downside is that it hasn’t worked at all. Rogers has very limited coverage outside urban centers. Bell does offer better coverage, but they do not cover the whole territory. Most northen and rural communities still have no cellular service and no high-speed internet. In this day and age, this is ludicrous !
Another downside of this law is that we now have the world’s most expensive wireless service and one of the least advanced (ex. we didn’t get Apple’s iPhone until at least a year after it became available worldwide). I guess it was an unintended consequence that Bell and Rogers decided to not really compete with each other… prices are high, service is poor and profits are maximized while we, the consumer, get sr*w*d royally.
Hi all users, I’m an 18 year old male and I can’t get a job anywhere, I must have applied for over 25 places since the beginning of summer and have only heard back from 3. This has obviously rocked my confidence and I cannot understand what I am doing wrong. I was hoping for someone to look at my CV and alter it so I can improve it. I’m still at school and this is my final year. I think this maybe affecting my chances to get a job but I do not know. I’ve an interview next Friday at a golf centre, however, I know almost nothing about golf. Should I cancel the interview? Or what should I do? I’m a friendly enough and outgoing guy, and I think my interview techniques are sound but perhaps not, any suggestions would be appreciated. Many Thanks once again and God Bless

Overall your CV appears very good. The only tweaks I would make is to move your skills up so that they come after your personal statement and then combine Education and Qualifications as the last item before your references. I would personally list your AS’s as qualifications as you do receive certificates for them although it might be wise to omit history and not comment on the Medical Science as it is generally known that A’levels take 2 years to complete. Alternatively you could say you are currently studying the 3 A’levels and say that at the and of the first year you were awarded an AS for ICT at grade B.
As for your Skills I would reorder them, putting the computing ones first. If you have a good attendance and punctuality record say it here, employers want someone they can count on to show up to work regally and on time. 3-5 skills will be enough.
Reference, if your references have an email address that they are willing for you to but in their contact details then put it in. With the resent postal strikes employers are increasingly gathering references by phone and email. Also try to get a land line for your second reference, you may want to make reference as to how the person is know to you - the shouldn’t be related to you.
It’s worth noting that most CVs will never get you a reply, this is because employers often have so many applications that they can’t afford to respond to everyone. Just imagine you have a 2 hour time slot and have to sort though 500 CV’s to find just 10 people to interview - how would you do it? This is the reality of what employers go through.
You also ask about the interview you have lined up. The choice to cancel is yours to make. Consider what the post you are being interviewed for is. If it is paper pushing in the office then knowing little about golf shouldn’t matter, however if it is working in the equipment stores then knowing your wedge from your driver is useful.
Good luck with the job hunting.
My computer has always ran fast. It is now running extremely slow. Any suggestions on what I can do to speed it back up? I have a cable connection from our local cable/telephone service.
Thanks,
Kitty
Here are a few simple tips for maintaining the performance of your PC.
Run the Regristryclean up scan
See http://toptenantispyware.com/Tune_Up_Center.htm automatically checks your hard disk for any unnecessary files and gives you the option to delete them. You can run the clean up scan if you’re only interested in performing a disk cleanup—or you can run the comprehensive full service scan to check for other PC issues as well.
Remove unused programs
Just because you aren’t using a program doesn’t mean it isn’t consuming resources and affecting your PC’s performance. Removing unused programs from your hard disk is an easy way to maintain your system and maximize your available hard disk space.
To remove programs you don’t need anymore:
1. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
2. In Category View, click Add or Remove Programs, then click Remove a program.
3. Scroll through the list and examine each program. Windows XP lists how often you use a program and what day you last started it.
Note: Don’t remove anything labeled "Update" or "Hotfix." These things improve the security of your computer.
4. Click a program you no longer need, click Change/Remove, and then follow the prompts to uninstall it. (In some cases, a program may be removed without prompting you further.)
You may have to restart your computer after removing a program. After your computer restarts, repeat this procedure to remove more programs.
Note: You must be in order to complete these steps.
Remove optional Windows components
You can remove optional Windows components from your PC to free up space. Many components come standard with Windows, but you may not use them frequently. You can reinstall these components from your Windows CD if you need them later.
To add or remove a Windows component:
1. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
2. In Category View, click Add or Remove Programs, then click Add a program.
3. On the left side of the menu, click Add/Remove Windows Components.
4. Follow the instructions in the Windows Components Wizard.
Note: You must be in order to complete these steps.
Modify System Restore data
Windows XP provides the option to restore your PC to a previous state by automatically saving restore information. System Restore continuously monitors your PC for changes, such as file changes, application changes, or installations. System Restore takes a "snapshot" of your PC at a given point in time and then stores each of these snapshots so that you can roll back any changes to a period before you experienced problems.
As you can imagine, these snapshots of your whole system take up memory space. You can delete older snapshots that you’re sure you won’t need in order to clean up your hard disk.
To delete System Restore snapshots except for the most recent one:
1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.
2. Wait while Disk Cleanup calculates free disk space.
3. Click the More Options tab, and then, in the System Restore area, click Clean up….
Scan and Clean Up your Registry
Lots of things get saved on your PC that you don’t need. Some are benign. Some slow you down. And some let prying eyes track what you do on your PC.
install Registry cleaner and run daily

Scan/Remove spyware
Your computer may be infected with Spyware, Adware, worms or Hidden Trojans!

I am so sick of Telstra ripping me off. Do any other Aussies know if there is a company that provides a decent deal on line rental and local and STD call costs, without having to sign up for an expensive long-term contract?
There are now over a hundred different carriers in Oz, so it can be hard to find a good deal on your own.
I have found an excellent website at http://www.phonechoice.com.au/index.cfm?Section=Home
which provides great comparison charts for each of the various types of service from many different carriers and service providers. I used this page to help me decide on who to go with.
Good luck.
What would be a good company name for an telecommunication company?
looking forward for your proposals..
thanks in advance
