No one can say what you will be doing because you can end up in various unit types.

Some Java realtime applications I use have a tendency to disconnect frequently-what can be done about it?

Posted by admin on April 25th, 2010 and filed under comms | 1 Comment »

Disconnecting realtime stock quotes and charts for example. At least sometimes it is because of a brief disconnect in the internet link but at times I am certain that the program itself just decides to quit. Is there a comms redundancy setting or something that can be adjusted?

The most likely cause is packet loss on your internet connection. Different applications will handle the situation differently. Try to go through settings or contact helpdesk if it is a commercial app, or add error checking if it is your own program.

xbox 360 headset. No comms on BFBC2. Is it my end or a common problem with the game?

Thought no one was talking but played loads and not heard a single thing. My headset seems to be in sync with the consol. Is there a setting on the games menu I need to change? Something to do with the server problems?
Just installed a new wireless reciever on the xbox. That wouldnt effect it would it?
Thanks for any help in advance.

yea, nobody talks in that game, prob cuz you cant tell if anyone is talking, try another game and see if it works there

    Comms in Iraq?

Posted by admin on January 18th, 2010 and filed under comms | 16 Comments »

Is there a GSM/GPRS cellphone network or a blackberry service that works for UK devices? Or is it a case of being reliant still on satellite phones?

(Asking in military as hopefully some of you that has served or are serving would know).
I meant generally available as opposed just through the military.
why is this sensitive info? Either there is a civilian mobile phone network or there isn’t.
Oh my you are a paranoid little lot. I am a paediatrician and ED doctor and am volunteering to go. I am non military and want to know if I should take my satellite Iridium phone or my standard UK mobile.
PAD-D… trust me I’ve been to far worse places!

I can’t believe you’re getting all these retarded responses. For what it’s worth, I’m sorry. All of you who gave bogus answers should be ashamed of yourselves. If any of you had an ounce of decency, you’d have taken your lives for shame long ago.

There is a civilian GSM cellular network available in Iraq. It’s called IraQna: http://www.iraqna.com/ and it’s quite reliable. Satellite phones of course work (I’ve used one myself on several occasions) but there’s simply no need for them if you’re going to stay in or around urban areas. Iraq may have trouble with electricity and running water, but satellite dishes and cellular networks are rife.

You should have roaming available for your cellular phone from the UK. The cost is likely to be prohibitive. My advice to you would be for you to take your UK phone with you, so as you touch down in Jordan, Kuwait, Turkey (wherever you’re entering Iraq from) and staging out, you can still call people.

Once you get to Iraq, have one of the local nationals (interpreter type) help you get you a phone off the local market.

    Good luck.

In Metal Gear Solid (PS version only) what happens if you dont collect the rope for COMMS tower?

Posted by admin on December 27th, 2009 and filed under comms | 2 Comments »

I know on the Gamecube version you do the hang and drop feature but this wasnt on the PS1 version.

The story won’t progress until you get the rope. you would have to go back down to get it and go all the way back up to the roof

What Navy Rates qualify for the FMF Pin?

Posted by admin on December 19th, 2009 and filed under comms | 2 Comments »

Im a Navy IT. Someone in my command left to go do Mobile Comms for the Navy SEALs. I heard that there is a Mobile Comms for the Marines. Can anyone verify that?

Any ratings that are assigned to a Marine unit can run a chit to start the qualification on it…
that’s the hard part. Getting assigned to a marine unit.
My friend, who’s a PS, was assigned to a marine unit and it was mandatory that she got her FMF pin while assigned there…kind of like how surface warfare/air warfare is mandatory for E-5’s and above assigned to ships.

Yes they do, as do LFB - it was one of the recommendations after the July bombings

I’m graduating in May 2009 with a degree in Corp. Comms. How hard will it be to find a job this year?

I’m graduating in May 2009 and wondering what my prospects are in the job market when I start sending my resumes out very late 2009/ early 2009…

A lot of that depends on where you live and what is in the area. You might have to relocate to get something in your field. Good luck.
