  • What if I cancel my long distance phone service?

Posted by admin on November 2nd, 2009 and filed under local phone service | 1 Comment »

if I cancel my long distance land line service, will my local phone company charge me for receiving long distance calls?

No. In fact this became a common practice within some select occupations. Those not having a need for Toll service, may, as a option discontinue the toll service from their present provider. You may also have the local telephone provider remove the "PIC" code from your telephone number within the local telephone switch. The results are that you cannot make any Toll calls from the land line. Any incoming calls whether local or long distance will work as usual. You normally pay for outgoing Toll calls not incoming Toll calls unless you accept a "Collect" or "Person to Person" call.
This practice is popular when you live in a small town with high rates for long distance calls on the land line phone, but low or no charges for long distance calls from your cellular phone service.
It helps you to "not" use the expensive service and it will most likely reduce your telephone expenses via non usage.
Call your Toll provider and cancel the Toll Service. Use your cell phone for the long distance Toll calls.
Good luck and may the good lord take a liken’ to ya’.

call your telco and see if the one you want is open.

I do this all the time for businesses and residential users.

If the number is open, the will issue it, you do not have to take the next one up.

I have three lines in the house, they all end with 1111 and the local central office supports three NXX’s.

How do I figure out what phone companies offer local service in my area? 53717?

I did a google search for you, and apparently your area code is 608, which is covered by MID WEST TEL-NET…their link is…www.mwt.net …If you want digital, I recommend Vonage, they are good and cheaper than most companies, I have no problems with their service…good luck

    Local phone service in NYC?

I am looking into Vonage but hear it is not good. Any others I should try?

    landline?

    connectel 718-854-3600
    xchange 877.853.8350
    trinsic (formerly z-tel) 877-448-7467
    IDT 800-883-6037
    Verizon 718-890-1550

I think that there are a few others, but these are all the ones that I know off the top of my head..
most of the companies at the top of the list will only switch your service from your current provider, so if you do not have dial tone yet, they will most likely tell you to get the line installed with verizon, and then call them back to switch it over..

I need to get local phone service in Atlanta but don’t want to use AT&T. I don’t have a number. Any options?

This depends on what you are using your home phone for. Do you need it to access the internet through dial-up? Do you need it so that other equipment you have works properly, such as a satellite dish? Or are you only using it for telephone calls so that you can chat with people? Do you have broadband internet service?

Depending on your answers to the above questions, I would suggest a few different options.

If you are using the phone so that you can get dial-up internet, or some other electronics use, you must get an actual land-line that plugs in to the wall. There are more service providers in your area for home phone service, that may be found in the beginning pages of your phone book.

If you are only using your home phone to communicate with, and you do have broadband internet service, then I would recommend going a different route such as a VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) phone. These services can be much more affordable.

I personally use the Linksys CIT310 dual-mode cordless telephone for all of my local and long-distance phone calls. I also have a phone number for my incoming calls. You can choose your own phone number, including the area-code that you would like, from anywhere all over the world.

With the Linksys CIT310 phone, I pay $2.99 monthly for my phone number. No other taxes or fees of any kind. If you pay yearly, it’s even cheaper. This includes unlimited incoming phone calls from anyone in the world. You don’t have to have an incoming phone number if you don’t want it.

With the CIT310 phone, I am currently paying $0.01 per minute on outgoing calls to any standard or wireless telephone in the United States and Canada. Other parts of the world are very inexpensive as well. There are no other fees, surcharges, monthly taxes, or anything of any kind like that.

All you have to do is make a single call using Yahoo! Phone Out once every 6 months to keep the account active and in good standing. That’s it. No other fees or requirements of any kind.

There are many other VoIP telephones that you can buy as well. They are usually a cheaper alternative than to getting an actual land-line.

There are also other things that you can use for a phone. Such as MagicJack. Check it all out at http://www.magicjack.com/ and it looks very impressive! This is going to be my next purchase I think.
