I am moving soon and I am considering having my phone with my cable company.
cable company VoIP is the best choice for those new to the VoIP market…
it is cheaper then landline service, and may even have some additional features you dont currently have, and the features that you have now that are paying extra for are included in the price…
the call quality is at least equal
weather related problems will not affect your line as with a landline that may get static when the outside lines get wet from rain..
the signal dosent really go over the internet, but the cable companys internal network, so unlike most VoIP providers, the voice packets DO have priority over the data packets traveling on the network, services like skype or vonage, or any other VoIP provider can not guarantee that the internet will treat your voice packets as a priority, infact, the internet will not give your voice packets priority, and you may experience quality issues with other VoIP providers.
BUT…. while other VoIP companies have there draw backs, so to does cable company provided VoIP… the ATA is part of the modem, so you can not bring your local number with you while you travel… most of the time you can only get a single phone line.. so if you want more then one number, you may need to get you additional phone lines from another provider..
but all and all, for a landline replacement, for simplicity, value, and sound quality, cable company provided VoIP is the best choice…

for the most part it’s fine - sometimes there’s a little playback or echo but nothing i can’t live with for the price… one thing that i really like is that I can look up and see who called what the number is when they called and so on thro digital voice so very nice feature.
