“If you want to give a message, it must be a message of ‘Love’. It must be a message of ‘Truth’.
I want to capture your hearts. Let your hearts clap in unison with what I’m saying, and I think, I shall have finished my work.
A friend asked yesterday, did I believe in one world? How can I possibly do otherwise. Of course I believe in one world.”
“How would be the world now, if he could communicate in this way? Telecom Italia. Communication is life.”
What if a great man of the last century - Gandhi, say had had access to the communications networks of our age when he made one of his most important speeches? The result is ‘Telecom Italia Gandhi’, an astonishing 60-second spot that started airing in Italy in 2004. It uses excerpts of his speech at the Inter-Asian Relations Conference, New Delhi, 1947. The music in the background is the song ‘Sacrifice’ by Lisa Gerrard.

Instead of great …
Instead of great men like Gandhi, Martin Luther king Jr. or Lincoln on these screens we had George W bush utilizing the enormous power of media for the past 8 years and the amount of destruction he managed to unleash is breathtaking. Makes one wonder if the innovations in technology is such a good thing for humanity.

Even if the company uses the message of Gandhiji for its own purposes, many people can know what he really is(atleast a little). Ad kept aside, the video is really awesome.

In fact i think its …
In fact i think its a good thing , that Gandhi was put up in the ad.Kudos to the italians for taking the trouble of coming up and recognizing the great individual…While it may be true that the telecom company wishes to monetarily gain from his message (which by itself is not all that ethical). Can we not allow this small pleasure in the face of a much grander goal ( that of the message
actually being spread ) ?

India is a huge …
India is a huge nation and the technological revolution happening in many places around Inida may not be apparent but the fact is it is happening. My village in Kerala had nothing significant technologically but in a few years computers, internet and such things are the norm in almost every household. It’s only a matter of time mate!

Btw, I’m pretty …
Btw, I’m pretty sure Gandhi, a staunch supporter of Swadesi (self-rule/self-reliance) not just regarding Nationalism but Individualism as well, would not like a multi-million dollar corporation using his words to hock their wares.
So much for his “message”. lol

The statements in …
The statements in this commercial/video are a cut&paste of Gandhi’s IARC speech. Here are his words as the commercial/video states them:
“If you want to give a message, it must be a message of ‘Love’. It must be a message of ‘Truth’. I want to capture your hearts. Let your hearts clap in unison with what I’m saying, and I think, I shall have finished my work. A friend asked yesterday, did I believe in one world? How can I possibly do otherwise.
